St Anthony’s College launches North East audio-visual archive

SHILLONG: The Department of Mass Media, St Anthony’s College, Shillong, inaugurated the North East India AV Archive Summit at the conference hall of the college on Thursday.
Kyntiewbor War from Mawshbuit, owner of the ‘Ever Living Museum’, inaugurated the archive. It is supported by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation of Japan.
The department will also collaborate with the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, Japan, who will be sharing their expertise.
During the occasion, a message from Shuichi Ohno, President of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation was read out in which the president apprised that the foundation has been undertaking a project called ‘Preserving and Sharing Histories and Memories of North East India’.
Fujioka Asako, board member of Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival (YIDFF) said that this year, YIDFF has a special section for North East India titled ‘Rustle of Spring, A Whiff of Gunpowder: Documentaries from Northeast India’; and wishes that these selected films screened at Japan will also travel back to the North East and get screened as a package.
The North East India AV Archive is an audio-visual public archive at the Department of Mass Media, St. Anthony’s College.
The archive aims to facilitate an activation of memories that have long been forgotten and will be a significant means of collecting knowledge and documenting history.
