JOWAI: The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) has approved the new revised estimate of Rs 44 crore for the construction of the six-storey super market complex at Iawmusiang, Jowai.

Informing this, JHADC CEM Lamdibok Sumer said the Council has approved the new estimate of Rs 44 crore prepared by the State PWD (Building).

Initially, the project estimate as per the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared in 2002 had calculated the estimate at Rs 20.64 crore including 10 per cent to be borne by the JHADC.

The project was delayed for years and due to inflation in construction material, the PWD (Buildings) which took over the construction work had to revise the estimate and sent it to the Council for approval.

“We have reached the final stage and we are expecting construction to start by next month,” Sumer said.

He also informed that the final work order will be issued soon.

Though the Union Ministry of DoNER has sanctioned Rs 18.09 crore for the market project, the JHADC will send the revised estimate of Rs 44 crore to the Ministry for consideration and approval.

Sumer also informed that the Union DoNER Minister Paban Singh Ghatowar would visit Jowai on May 29 to inspect the market site.
