Police upbeat over dip in accidents

SHILLONG: The Shillong Traffic Police on Saturday said that the department is happy with the decline in road accidents in East Khasi Hills after it had intensified its crackdown on traffic violators.
Bikram D Marak, SP (Traffic) said that accidents occur due to negligence and is not always the result of drunk driving. “Even a normal person gets into accidents,” he said.“Our people are stationed in different places till mid-night and sometimes till mornings to detect violators,” he said.
While admitting that the number of two wheelers in the city has increased, he said that the people in Shillong do maintain discipline as compared to other states.
