Guv, teachers, NE body remember Jala

SHILLONG: Governor Tathagata Roy along with the All Meghalaya Primary School Teacher’s Association (AMPSTA) and the North East India Christian Council (NEICC) remembered Archbishop of Shillong Dominic Jala who passed away in a car accident on October 10.
“In his death our state as well as our nation has lost a kind and humble soul. I convey my deepest condolences to his entire flock and all the members of Shillong Archdiocese. I pray to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul,” the governor said in a statement.
In a statement issued here, the general secretary of the AMPSTA, FC Shullai described Jala as a father of the primary teachers in Meghalaya who was loved, respected for his inclusive attitude, humility and his academic and linguistic achievements besides the love he had for the indigenous people.
The association has conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family members and relatives of late Jala.
It may be mentioned that on September 20, at his own invitation, members of the Executive Committee of NEICC had a friendly and fruitful meeting with Jala at his residence. The archbishop had a cordial relationship with NEICC.
Meanwhile, the people of Police Bazar also condoled the untimely demise of the archbishop, SL Singhania, Police Bazar ward informed in a statement issued here.
