Sensitisation on girl child rights, POCSO Act

NONGPOH: The office of the Block Mission Coordinator, SSA Umling Block Resource Center (BRC), organised a one-day awareness programme on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao at Raid Nongbri Presbyterian Secondary School on Thursday to sensitise schoolchildren on the various rights of a girl child including POCSO.
Mayralborn Syiem, local legislator of Nongpoh, was the chief guest and the District School Education Officer (DSEO) was the guest of honour.
AR Rani, Protection Officer (Institution) of the District Child Protection Unit, Ri Bhoi and S Lyngdoh, BRP Inclusive Education of SSA Umling BRC, who attended the programme as resources persons, enlightened the students on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’, a flagship programme of the Government of India with an aim to make girls independent both socially and financially with the help of education.
Earlier, a rally was also held where more than twelve schools from Raid Nongbri participated.
The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates to the winners of the slogan competition organised earlier as part of the programme.
