Tripura Govt launches social support schemes

Agartala: A few months ahead of election to Tripura Assembly, the Manik Sarkar-led sixth Left Front Government has announced a many social support schemes bounty for Rickshaw pullers to journalists and police personnel.

Talking to media, Mr Sarkar said here yesterday the state government would provide pension of Rs 12,000 per annum at present from May 1 for the journalists at the age of 60 years and who had been in the field of active journalism with government accreditation for not less than 10 years. “Besides, the government would provide a plot of land around Agartala city for housing of the journalists while facilitating house building loan from nationalised banks at simple interest to journalists’ society,” Mr Sarkar said, adding the government had already transferred Rs three lakh more to the benevolent fund of journalist welfare, opened a decade ago.

He also pointed out that the Cabinet had decided to cover all physically challenged persons under mandatory allowance of Rs 400 per month. Similar amount would also be provided to 45-year-old unmarried BPL women.

The entire registered rickshaw pullers had also been brought under pension scheme at Rs 400 per month and the age-limit was reduced to 55 years from existing 60 years, Mr Sarkar said, adding the ration allowances for police and TSR personnel were also increased to Rs 700 per month.

As part of social security plan of construction labourers, the unmarried women working as construction workers would now get Rs 10,000 as one time allowance during their marriage and this would also be applicable for the marriage of the daughter of construction labourers.

To develop the religious communities, the government had decided to launch massive developmental initiatives to improve socio-economic status of 151 villages of the state. (UNI)
