Archbishop’s demise huge loss to Meghalaya: Syiem

GUWAHATI: Nongpoh MLA, Mayral Born Syiem has condoled the demise of Archbishop Dominic Jala, the Archbishop of Shillong Archdiocese, saying that the great spiritual leader’s passing away is a huge loss to the Archdiocese of Shillong and Meghalaya.

In a condolence message addressed to Rev Father John Madur, archdiocesan administrator, Shillong, Syiem recalled the contributions of Archbishop Jala and appreciated his leadership in church and society during his tenure.

“He was known for his contributions to nurturing grassroots ecumenism and spiritual values, mission and evangelism. As a religious leader and educator he was a proponent of religious harmony, peace and reconciliation in our state. He has left his good and valuable footprint in our society in various fields. I personally feel that he is a person with humility, down to earth, humble and a true disciple of God,” the MLA wrote in the condolence letter.

“On behalf of the people of Nongpoh constituency, I express my sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Most Rev. Dominic Jala, members of the Salesian Congregation, all faithful of Shillong Archdiocese, his friends and close associates. His legacy will be remembered for generations to come,” he said.
