Mission ‘Total Sanitation’

NONGSTOIN: Thousands of people participated in the Total Sanitation Campaign programme organised by the State Water and Sanitation Board in collaboration with the District Water and Sanitation Mission at Mawkyrwat on Wednesday.

Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh was the chief guest on the occasion. The main objective of the Campaign was to eliminate the practice of open defecation and pigsty toilets, ensuring construction of sanitary latrines for households apart from safe disposal of human faeces and maintenance of personal and environmental hygiene.

“If Mawlynnong can be the cleanest village in Asia, why can’t the people of Nongstoin take a step to create a big change here,” Lyngdoh said while speaking on the occasion.

The Deputy CM also stressed the urgent need to ban plastic bags in the area.

Earlier, a sizeable rally led by the two MDCs, Enbin K.Raswai, Mawkyrwat and Manstudy Nongrem, Langrin, Executive Engineer, PHE Nongstoin, A.Lyngkhoi and other officers along with thousands of students and villagers reached the venue shouting slogans in support of the campaign. Sordar of different villages and District heads also attended the programme.
