NONGPOH: The two frontal NGOs of Ri Bhoi district, the KSU and the FKJGP North Khasi Hills, have called off their plan for agitation against setting up of a Police Outpost (PO) by the Assam Government at Khanapara in Ri-Bhoi district.

The NGOs took this decision on Thursday after the State Government and the Ri Bhoi District Administration deputed Magistrate Jonathan Shylla to inspect the area where the PO had been set up by the Assam Government. The Magistrate also brought down the PO signboard.

Ferdynald Kharkamni, general secretary of the KSU, informed this scribe that the two NGOs have called off their plan of agitation against the government, even though they were awaiting the State Government’s order for dismantling the Assam Police Outpost constructed on Meghalaya territory.

Kharkamni also informed that the Assam Police Outpost had been set up illegally on a plot of land belonging to one C Narleng.

The NGOs also urged the Government and political leaders of the State to initiate action to solve the dispute at Khanapara and Langpih at the earliest so that residents of these areas can live in peace and harmony.
