TURA: Two organizations from Garo Hills have sought the conduct of a Physical Efficiency Test (PET) in Tura with regard to the recruitment of candidates to the Meghalaya Police Service (MPS), a notification for which was issued by the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) in August this year.

The GSMC along with the GSU CEC on Thursday submitted an appeal to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Home Minister James Sangma and the Meghalaya DGP urging that the physical test for candidates from Garo Hills is conducted in Tura to ease the hardships of aspirants from the region.

The organizations pointed out that in PET exams held in Shillong in the past, many aspirants from Garo Hills could not make it to the venue due to various hardships, with financial constraints being the main reason for many. According to the organizations, those who could make it also were not without challenges as they had to arrange funds for the trip, while some even had to brave the winter cold and sleep in the open due to lack of hotel accommodation.

Keeping in mind that such problems have been faced by candidates from Garo Hills and to ensure that all sections of the society get equal opportunity for employment, the organizations urged that the upcoming physical test for MPS as well as for others in the future are also conducted in Tura.
