SHILLONG: The Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) has said that some students of the institute have, in a section of the media, purportedly expressed their anxiety over non-declaration of holiday on October 23 when the funeral of Archbishop Dominic Jala was held.
It said the university follows the holiday list decided by the state government adding that a central university like NEHU and other state universities did not declare a holiday on October 23.
“The word `Christian’ that the university carries is not about religion. It’s about imparting `Christian’ values and principles which we try to communicate to our students,” the MLCU said in a statement.
MLCU said that the viewpoint of one student was given precedence over the views of the management.
“The university had given the option to attend the funeral of the Archbishop. They only had to seek permission to do so. In fact, students and staff did that without much fuss,” the university said.
