Mawkyrwat: Mawkyrwat MLA and Chairman MIDC, Renik L Tongkhar on Friday inaugurated ‘‘Jingkieng– an Art Exhibition of International Art Residency, Artists’ Point 2019 Meghalaya” held at the Multipurpose Hall in Mawkyrwat.
The programme was organised by the Picasso Pupils — an Art Society — hosted by Shillong Public School and supported by State Education Mission Authority of Meghalaya (SEMAM-SSA) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism partnering with the embassy of the Slovak Republic in New Delhi under the patronage of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Tongkhar expressed his happiness on being able to associate with a workshop of international standard which was attended by international artists and, especially, on the fact that the participation was extended to the young school children and young people of the district.
He also lauded the deputy commissioner for supporting the programme which had motivated, inspired and encouraged students to learn skills and gain knowledge.
While acknowledging artists from across the globe, he also encouraged the students to accumulate great things from them.
Tongkhar also hoped that the programme ‘Jingkieng’ (the bridge) will bridge the gap between diverse cultures.
Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo expressed her happiness in witnessing a vibrant group supporting the event which had happened for the fourth time in the state and the second time in the area where different schools from Mawkyrwat participated.
She hoped that the international artists will lend support to young talented youth in developing their talents and in teaching them the essence of art. She further inspired students to learn, excel and broaden their interests through such platform.
The six artists — Andrew Smith (Wales), Cristina Megia (Spain), Christophe Riva (Japan/France), Jana Bednarova (Slovakia), Md. Imtiaj Islam (Bangladesh) and Thlana Bazik (Mizoram) – were, along with the local young artists, felicitated by the chief guest.
