Agartala: Taking a serious view over the LPG crisis, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Manik Dey on Saturday urged Union Petroleum Minister Jaipal Reddy to restore the supply of bullets immediately.

In a letter addressed to the Union Minister, Dey mentioned the landlocked state has faced a serious LPG crisis with the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) failing to supply required number of bullets. Giving instance, he said only 2/3 bullets are available at Bishalgarh Gas Bottling Plant which has a capacity of refilling 15/16 bullets in a day.

The operation of Mohanpur Gas Bottling Plant has been suspended due to shortage of bullets.

“The situation continues to deteriorating with every passing day and people are all set hit the street demanding restoration of LPG supply. There is an urgent need to intervene by the high level to improve the situation”, he told the Union Minister.

Similarly, Commissioner of Food and Civil Supplies BK Roy has written a letter to the IOC authority requesting it to take immediate step on order to restore the LPG supply.

In the letter, Roy mentioned that the present stock could meet only 50 demands of LPG cylinders. The state needs 14000 LPG cylinders in a day.

However, taking the advantage of shortage of LPG, few LPG dealers have started black marketing to earn bulk money.

Though the enforcement branch of Food and Civil Supplies department has been asked to remain vigilant on the LPG black marketing, people are frustrated with the problem.
