Don Bosco congregation head arrives in city

SHILLONG: Fr.Angel Artime Fernandez SDB, the Major Superior of the Salesians of Don Bosco congregation, arrived in the city on Monday evening.
Fr Fernandez was elected by the Salesian General Chapter 27 as the Rector Major of the Salesians on May 24, 2014. He is the 10th successor of Don Bosco and the first Spaniard and third non-Italian to become Rector Major in Salesian history.
He is the state guest and is accompanied by his secretary Fr Horazzio SDB.
Fr Fernandez was also Provincial Superior of León, Spain, Southern Argentina and was preparing to take possession of Sevilla Province when he was elected as Rector Major.
Fr. Fernandez was welcomed by Fr Michael Makri, the director of Don Bosco Media, at Guwahati Airport. Fr Paul O Lyngkot, the Provincial, together with provincial council members accompanied the Rector Major from Tripura.
The Rector Major is in the city to meet the Confreres, the Salesian Family Members and the youth. A youth gathering will be held on the premises of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School at 4 pm on Tuesday. The Rector Major will interact with thousands of youth from across the state.
