TURA: The FKJGP from Garo Hills on Thursday strongly condemned the alleged interference by Balachanda MDC Sofior Rahman on raids conducted by GHADC Forest Department against illegal saw mills in Garo Hills.
In a statement issued here, the federation demanded that the executive committee of the GHADC take immediate action against the MDC and file an FIR against him for obstructing the duty of the employees of its department. It also demanded that Rehman be removed from the Forest’ vice-chairman’s post
as well as from the ruling party and all privileges he enjoyed as a ruling MDC be ceased. “He must be removed from his seat as MDC if the laws and provisions of the GHADC allows,” it said.
Reminding that GHADC is for Garos and Garo Hills from which Rehman is earning a living, the federation also gave a clear warning to all illegal saw mill owners who are operating under his (Rehman) protection to stop or face action from them.
“We reiterate that we will not tolerate such kind of illegal activities and interference in the proper functioning of GHADC by anyone. We also assure that FKJGP GHZ is always with the GHADC and it must not bow down to people like him,” FKJGP general secretary, Raksrang A Sangma said.
Earlier on Wednesday, personnel of the GHADC’s Forest Department had accused Rehman of disrupting a raid conducted against illegal saw mills in the plain belt areas of West Garo Hills.
