NEHU holds multiple programmes ahead of convocation

SHILLONG: The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), in connection with the university’s XXVI Convocation, which is slated to be held on November 4, had undertaken a series of programmes.
NEHU, in collaboration with the NSS Unit, NEHU, visited the adopted village of Nongsangu, Umsning, on October 26. A team of 20 volunteers from the university took part in the visit wherein awareness programmes on different socio-economic issues were conducted in the village. The student volunteers apprised the participants on the importance of maintaining cleanliness within the society and avoid the indiscriminate disposal and throwing of plastic. They also raised awareness on the importance of proper nutrition, vaccination and need for education, and their overall significance in uplifting the overall conditions of the village as a whole. Light refreshments also were served to the village children by the volunteers.
The university also organised an awareness programme on blood and organ donation on October 28 in the Cluster of Classrooms (Social Science) where Dr. Hughbert Dkhar, Pathologist and In-Charge, Blood Bank, Nazareth Hospital was the resource person. Around 100 students of the university participated in the awareness programme which was also attended by the Vice Chancellor, SK Srivastav and the Pro Vice-Chancellor, H Lamin.
The next day, NEHU organised a blood donation camp was in collaboration with the Pasteur Institute (Regional Blood Bank), Shillong. During the camp, a team of three doctors from the institute along with 11 support staff were present. A Laloo from the Meghalaya Aids Control Society was also present for the camp. A total of 71 students and teachers volunteered out of which 39 were donors while 32 cases were deferred.
A cleaning-cum-tree plantation drive was also organised in the university’s Shillong campus on Wednesday which active participation of the students, research scholars and faculty members.
The members of the Research Scholars Forum, NEHU, undertook the plantation of 100 saplings on the way to the Convocation Hall, NEHU, to mark the event. A similar activity was also undertaken at the university’s Tura campus on October 26.
Workshop on robotics for healthcare
The Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU will organise a five-day AICTE Training and Learning Academy (ATAL) workshop on ‘Robotics for Healthcare’ from November 4 to 8 under the sponsorship of AICTE, Government of India.
The event will be inaugurated by Nayan M Kakoty, Associate Professor, Tezpur University in the presence of Registrar, Dean (SOT), Head (BME) from NEHU on November 4 at 5 pm in EFL University Conference Hall.
Sudip Paul, Assistant Professor, BME department is the Coordinator of the event. Nearly 80 registered delegates will be participating from all over the country, including faculties/researchers.
The resource persons are from NIT Meghalaya, Tezpur University, NIPER-Guwahati, NEIGRIHMS, NEHU and Sarada Prasad Dakua from Hamad General Hospital, Doha, Qatar will be one of the speakers.
