SHILLONG: A group of students from Raid Laban College on Tuesday shouted slogans and staged demonstrations in front of the Additional Secretariat in protest against the delay in the release of post matric scholarship since 2009.

Students numbering around hundred staged protests after they were not allowed to enter the Secretariat in order to meet the Director of Higher and Technical Education (DHTE), W Khyllep.

One of the students, Francis Donbok Kharlyngdoh said that the DHTE on April 19 was reminded about the scholarship but till date nothing has been done.

“We have not got our scholarship for 2009 and we are finding it difficult to manage our studies,” he added.

Later, a delegation of the students finally met Khyllep as the State Government released the scholarship for the year 2009-2010. The Government is still awaiting clearance for the scholarship for the 2010-11 period from the Centre.
