Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has welcomed foreign investment in Information Technology sector considering the prospect of the industry in northeast region. While laying the foundation stone for a Software Technology Park at Agartala, Mr Sarkar yesterday said that a good number of IT professionals from Tripura and other northeastern states had been working in various parts of the globe and the region has the capacity to make it an IT hub.

“Public investment in IT sector in region like northeast is not possible at this stage but foreign investment is very much possible because Indian IT professionals can serve the multi nationals from here,” Sarkar said. He, however, pointed out that multi-national investors would have been happy to invest in India more, precisely in northeast, because of various facilities including low-wage employees and prospect of the sector.
