Shillong: The 69th Foundation Day and Rajya Puraskar Rally of the Bharat Scouts and Guides were held on Wednesday at the lawn of the Raj Bhavan in the city.
Governor Tathagata Roy, who is also the patron of the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The programmes, held on the theme ‘Plastic-Free India’, were also attended by the Additional State Chief Commissioner of Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides CP Gotmare, commissioners of the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides, and parents of awardees.
Addressing the gathering, Roy lauded the role of the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides in conducting successful workshops and awareness programmes throughout the state “with the aim of moulding the future generation into healthy, happy and useful citizens.”
While congratulating the Rajya Puraskar awardees, he said that it was heartening to see that not only are the numbers of awardees are increasing every year, but also that they are coming from even the remotest parts of the state.
Roy also said with the dedication and commitment of all stakeholders, the beauty of Meghalaya can once again be reclaimed.
Earlier, 65 guides and 3 rangers, 58 scouts and 5 rovers were presented with the Rajya Puraskar. Adult Leaders Certificates were also presented to two awardees.
