SHILLONG: The MDC of Balachanda, Sofiur Rehman, has said the allegation against him regarding rash driving is not true.
There were media reports that an FIR was lodged against him in this regard.
In his response, Rehman said that on November 7 at 5 pm he was not present in the constituency. “I reached home around 6.30 pm from Guwahati and I had not used the Mercedes Car on November 5. I am using a Bolero vehicle for almost a month on a rental basis and the Mercedes car was taken by the SBI Bank Manger of New Bhaitbari to go to his residence at Guwahati with my younger brother, driver and one Bodiat Zaman due to holidays. He said the allegation against him was pre-planned by Nur Kalam Kazi because on November 1 Kazi and his team had assaulted his cousin brother Akirul Islam while he was clicking photos of illegal stone crusher run by Kazi at new Bhaitbari. “They wanted to damage my image and reputation because the illegal stone crusher was seized by a forest official November 2,’’ Rehman said.

The MDC said the West Garo Hills DC knows about the matter and he had received complaints from the locality.
Rehman also urged the chief executive member of GHADC and forest officials to install CCTV cameras to all the GHADC and state forest check points to detect the smugglers.
