JOWAI: A joint meeting held at DC’s Office, Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills attended by various officers from 25 departments along with members of the 6 Dorbar Shnong Wah Lukha Association has unanimously passed a resolution to conduct a joint inspection on Lukha river in Narpuh Elaka East Jaintia Hills.
The meeting has fixed November 29 for the joint inspection.
“The joint inspection will comprise various heads of departments which include the Water Resources, the Public Health Engineering, the Pollution Control Board, the Mining Department besides others.
“During the inspection we will look into various aspects in connection with water quality and the condition of the river starting from it confluence with Lunar River and frame a report. We will call ask expert parties to guide us how to go forward for rejuvenation process”, the East Jaintia Hills DC FM Dopth said.
The meeting was attended by all officers of various departments except the Meghalaya Pollution Control Board.
The 6 Shnong Wah Lukha Association slammed the member secretary of pollution control board for not being present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, the 6- Dorbar Shnong Wah Lukha Association has also met the Chief Executive Member of the JHADC and demanded that the Lukha river should not be leased out to any individual or association and wanted that the Lukha river be preserved for the welfare of all aquatic life present on it.
“Our association has been formed and established with the primary objective to protect and safeguard Lukha river and to generate employment as the river is a source of livelihood to the local people.
