NONGSTOIN: Damanbha Marwein of Rngi kseh Pariong village under Mawthadraishan Block of West Khasi Hills was born normal but after one year two months, the baby boy weighs a staggering 25 kilograms much to the surprise of his parents.

The son of Sarpetalan Lyngkhoi and Gladis Marwein, Damanbha was born on March 1, 2011. “At the time of his birth my son was normal like other babies weighing only 3 kg, but shockingly after 10-15 days we could hardly spare enough to buy milk and good food for him (Daman),” said Gladis.

Daman who used to eat as many as eight times a day was fed with local rice.

“After three months we were concerned to see our son growing bulky in line with a sumo wrestler,” she added.

Alarmed by the rapid increase in weight of their son, the couple sought medical advice and visited doctors at the Robert Hospital. However, the doctors declared that baby Daman was absolutely normal after they had conducted a few tests.

“Given the fact that the ideal weight of a 14-month-old baby is 10-12 kgs, we decided to seek medical attention,” said Lyngkhoi.

“Now his weight has increased to 25 kg but he is in good health,” he added.
