Two-day entrepreneurial programme kicks off in city

SHILLONG: The first boot-camp and pitching session for the top 100 entrepreneurs selected under the Chief Minister’s E-Champion Challenge 2019 organised by the Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship (MIE) was kicked off in the city on Saturday.
The inaugural programme of the two-day boot-camp session was attended by D Vijay Kumar, Commissioner & Secretary, Planning Department along with the Director General of the Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship (MIE), B Mawlong, mentors from the Indian Institute of Management – Calcutta Innovation Park (IIM-CIP) comprising CD Mitra, Kaustav Majumdar, Prajal Konwar and Debarpratim Das including officials from the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA) among others.
Speaking on occasion, Kumar said that the fundamental idea of entrepreneurship initiated by the state government is to inculcate the entrepreneurial culture among the youth in the state.
“With 63% of the population of the state are under the age of 34 years, which is one of the highest in the country, the Institute of Entrepreneurship is committed to take advantage of these young energies and nurture their ideas,” he said.
Kumar also spoke about the role of the government in facilitating and promoting entrepreneurs in the state by creating an ecosystem, policy measures and by providing a platform for entrepreneurs to come together to interact and exchange ideas from time to time.
He also informed that entrepreneurship is one of the important sectors that the state government focuses on for overall development.
“Therefore, entrepreneurs have a huge part to play in making Meghalaya a prosperous state,” he said.
The boot-camp will conclude on Monday wherein the entrepreneurs will get an opportunity to present their ideas before a panel of judges.
