Militants attack central govt office

IMPHAL: Suspected Kuki militants attacked the Customs office at the border town of Moreh in Manipur’s Chandel district bordering Myanmar but no casualty was reported, official sources said Saturday .Sources said two militants barged into the customs office at Moreh, about 120 kms south-east of here, last evening and enquired about the whereabouts of the Customs office Superintendent R K Darendrajit.When the staff members told the militants that the official was not in office, the militants fired damaging office property but no casualty was reported.Sources said some militants had already served extortion notice on the office which was not met by the officials. Probe against 76 police officers

AGARTALA:Tripura Government initiated departmental enquiry against 76 police officers of the state over allegation of corrupt practices, misleading cases and indirectly helping the illegal trade of drug.State home department officials said here today the accused were of the rank of assistant sub-inspector to deputy superintendent of police at sub-division level and superintendent of police of the respective districts had been investigating the allegations.”The accused are 34 sub-inspectors, 12 assistant sub-inspectors, 19 inspectors and 11 DSP. All these officials have been working at police station level and involved in crime control and crime investigation activities,” officials added. (UNI)

KYKL militants arrested

IMPHAL: Three militants of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL) were arrested by Manipur police commandos from different parts of Imphal area in Imphal West district of Manipur, official sources said Saturday.Sources said Soram Ibohal, a prominent KYKL member (46), was nabbed during a search operation from family welfare office road here Friday.Two other KYKL members, identified as Suranjoy Singh (44) and Kh Deben Kishore (42,) were also arrested from Thangmeiband area here in Imphal West district, sources said adding that one 9 mm pistol and five rounds of ammunition were recovered from Suranjoy Singh.All three arrested persons have been handed over to the respective police stations, sources said adding that further interrogation was on.( PTI)

Minister calls for efficiency

GUWAHATI: The Assam Social Welfare Department officials were on Friday urged by their minister Akon Bora to be more efficient so that the underprivileged target group of society received the full benefit of the government schemes.The Minister said this addressing a Divisional Programme Officers, District Social Welfare Officers, Child Development Project Officers and Probation Officers of the state in a review meeting on ICDS and Other Schemes implemented by Social Welfare Department.He appealed the officials to work with sincerity.
