Results of SI recruitment delayed by 2 months

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: The State Government is yet to announce the results for the recruitment of the 140 Sub Inspectors of the Unarmed Branch (UB) whose personal interview was completed since March 31.

Police sources had claimed then that this is the most transparent and merit-based recruitment process conducted. They had posted the results on the Police website after each interview process.

Now the candidates who have qualified are restless about the undue delay in announcement of the results.

When contacted, DGP N Ramachandran said that they have submitted the list of the successful candidates to the State Government for its final approval.

“The result would be declared very soon,” Ramachandran said.

Meanwhile, Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh with whom the file is lying for final clearance was not available for comments. The Home Minister has been away at his constituency since the last few days and could not be contacted over his mobile phone.

Informed sources said that the Home Minister is not very happy with the manner that the interview has been conducted as there is no scope for anyone to alter, modify, interpolate or manipulate the results.

It is learnt that those candidates who had qualified are now restive. They are not willing to sit back and watch the delay. ” A few who spoke to The Shillong Times said they will now seek information under the RTI as to the reasons for the delay since the Chief Minister had been repeatedly stating that there is a huge gap between the existing manpower in the Police and the actual requirement.

In the past there have been serious allegations of candidates getting into the Police after paying money to politicians and police higher ups. This scope has been completely eliminated this time.
