Workshop to preserve vernacular language

SHILLONG: The Indian National Trust for Arts and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) in association with the Department of Cultural and Creative Studies, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) organised a Workshop on Scientific Preservation of Indigenous Language on Friday at the New Guest House, NEHU, Shillong.
Commissioner and Secretary, Arts and Culture FR Kharkongor, who was the chief guest, in his inaugural address said, “The indigenous language needs to be preserved, protected and promoted in order to sustain vernacular literature, the new generation should refrain from using casual abbreviation text that may cause harm to their mother tongue.”
Prof. Andrew May, University of Melbourne, narrated about the prospects and challenges of the indigenous languages in the digital age. He deplored the colonial control of many indigenous languages across the world through the system of linguistic imperialism.
