NONGPOH: The local legislator of Nongpoh constituency, Mayralborn Syiem, donated a garbage vehicle to the people of Nongpoh Proper in a bid to ease the problems faced by the residents in transporting garbage from the households to the solid waste management project located at Umshangling.
Nongpoh Proper did not have a vehicle for collection of garbage for the past few years as waste collection vehicles of the Urban Affairs department, which were handed to the Nongpoh Town Committee (NTC) and subsequently provided to each village falling under the NTC, were grounded due to technical breakdown and other issues.
Syiem donated the vehicle for the residents keeping in mind the plight faced by them as the NTC trucks only collect garbage from the highways and do not enter the villages.
Speaking at the function, Syiem said with the inauguration of the solid waste management project of Nongpoh by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, it is high time that the people should take serious note on maintaining cleanliness not just inside their houses but in their surroundings as well.
On the other hand, the MLA also announced that the fresh construction and blacktopping of the road connecting National Highway-6 to Sajer village, which was recently repaired by some youths, will be started between the first and second week of December.
