JOWAI: The chairman of the North East Indigenous People’s Federation, Marshall Biam, has condemned the East Jaintia Hills deputy commissioner for allegedly lodging a false complaint under various sections.
Biam said in a recent statement the complaint was lodged because he was raising his voice for the villagers of Hingaria who are waiting for compensation for the land given for Indo-Bangladesh border fencing.
“I condemn the act of the deputy commissioner and I seek his clarification on the allegation framed by him against me,” he added.
According to Biam, the villagers approached him after delay in government compensation and he, in the capacity of a social worker, wrote a complaint to the DC office. “He (the DC) is the administrative and judicial head of the district and we thought he would help us. While we were waiting for his response, a report about the complaint (filed at Lumshnong police outpost) was published in a local newspaper on November 19,” Biam said.
“This act of the DC has put doubts in our mind as I only wanted to help the poor villagers, all of whom are farmers. I have been booked under several sections. What crime have I committed,” he asked.
Biam contested the last JHADC election but lost.
