MAWKYRWAT/TURA: The office of the District Medical & Health Officer, South West Khasi Hills District launched the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana-Matru Vandana Saptah (PMMVY-MVS) and Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 2.0 at Mawkyrwat CHC on Monday. The IMI and PMMVY-MVS were also launched in East Garo Hills by Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe at DRDA Hall-I in Williamnagar on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Tembe congratulated the District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) for her initiative to simultaneously launch the IMI and the PMMVY-MVS.
In Mawkyrwat, R Kharbihkhiew, BDO of Mawkyrwat C&RD Block, said that the PMMVY-MYV and IMI are schemes to build a strong and healthy foundation for the nation.
Kharbihkhiew said that Food Security Act gives an assurance that people should not go hungry, especially pregnant and lactating mothers who are builders of the nation.
The BDO also advised women to go for balanced diet, proper health check-ups and complete all necessary injections in order to see that their children are healthy.
He urged upon the SHA, Anganwadi and ANM workers to serve people with responsibility.
Speaking about the Matru Vandana Saptah (MVS), 2019 thematised on ‘Towards Building a Healthy Nation’, Apphira Kharkongor, District Coordinator, PMMVY, South West Khasi Hills, gave a brief definition on the meaning, purpose and benefit of MVS which is under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) programme.
She said that the scheme aims at reaching out to the remotest place of the district so that people could get the monetary benefits of Rs 5,700.
She said that the target of PMMVY scheme in the district is 1,722 and 813 is still pending.
Therefore, she urged the people to be messengers so that pregnant and lactating mothers will get the benefit and the government will achieve its target in helping them.
