SHILLONG: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Purno K Sangma, has finally responded to the pressure of the ANVC (B), and passed orders to put an end to illegal flow of outsiders and illegalities in the GHADC jurisdiction, the ANVC (B) claimed on Thursday.

Following pressure to resign following his lackluster attitude in keeping a check on illegal trade, hawkers, settlers and inflow of outsiders, the GHADC chief held series of meetings and ordered to check illegal collection and unlawful practices in markets and haats by GHADC and its functionaries, the outfit claimed.

According to the ANVC (B), Sangma has sought cooperation from the Government departments, the Traders’ Associations of Garo Hills, Chambers of Commerce and others in checking illegal flow of traders and unlawful practices in the Garo Hills markets which is adversely affecting prices of essential commodities.

The ANVC (B), however, made it clear that it would keep a close watch on how serious the CEM is on his assurance and order, and if there is no change in a month’s time then the outfit will take up the issue again.

The ANVC (B) has also warned the Garo Hills legislators to address the woes of the people within one week.

“If MLAs do not unite and do something to end the woes of Garo Hills by the end of this week then we will have no choice but to pressurize them individually,” the ANVC (B) added.

“MLAs should stop ignoring public related issues and politicians should take things seriously now as people have suffered for long due to negligence of the leaders,” outfit said in a statement.
