SHILLONG: After a halt of almost two months, the GVK EMRI 108 ambulance will resume service in 43 locations from Saturday.
The ambulance service in the state was affected for months following a stand-off between a group of employees and the management over salary and other matters.
However, the problem between the management and the employees of the GVK EMRI 108 was finally resolved last Friday and both parties agreed to resume service.
Sources said following the disruption, the emergency call rates have reduced but the number of calls is increasing again.
It may be mentioned that a major portion of the state’s population depends on the free 108 ambulance service in times of medical emergency.
There are currently 48 ambulances in 43 locations and five of them are used as back-up.
The GVK EMRI employees were demanding salary hike and wanted the management to resolve issues like shortage of manpower, admission for leave, rampant transfer and unusable condition of ambulances.
