Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday launched a campaign ‘Opening Doors for Education to Children’ initiated by Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) on Wednesday.
Speaking during the launch, Sangma congratulated MSLA for the programme which aims to reach out to children who deserve education and knowledge, and said that the issue of education is a great challenge for the state and the country as a whole.
“The problems in the education sector are many, and the figures of dropouts in the primary and even higher levels of education in the state are alarming and concerning,” he said.
He informed that education is the priority of the government and the Meghalaya Education Policy, which the state did not have for many years, is now a guiding document to move forward in the education sector while addressing the many challenges the education sector faces.
He also said that the problems in the education sector need integrated and innovative sustainable solutions by coming together of all stakeholders and departments.
Conrad further assured complete support from the state government.
Justice Mohammad Rafiq, who was the guest of honour in the programme, in his keynote address said that the campaign is aimed at providing education to all those children who had once dropped out of school, and also protect their valuable right enshrined in the Article 21 of the Constitution of India.
He informed that MSLA would play the role of a catalyst to the state government in achieving this objective.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Justice HS Thangkhiew informed that the four-month campaign would be pursued with the active involvement of different stakeholders from education, health, law and social welfare departments.
