SHILLONG: The Synjuk ki Rangbah Kur Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep, a special executive committee of clan elders, has demanded implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
The clan elders also made a suggestion that the Sixth Schedule should be suitably amended to ‘redefine’ and include the ‘European Ward’ within the purview of the State land regulation.
The Synjuk also urged Governor Tathagata Roy to not make any statement that might impinge on the integrity of his office and constitutional ethic.
“Governor Tathagata Roy advocated the implementation of CAB in the state without considering the temperament and genuine aspiration of the indigenous people of the state,” the Synjuk said.
The Synjuk also feared political conflict and social turmoil in the state if the CAB is implemented in the state.
Addressing the executive committee of the forum, former KHADC CEM HS Shylla pointed out that since 1978 there was the demand for implementation of ILP in Meghalaya, and even during his tenure his executive committee had formulated the provision for ILP, but the state government had totally ignored the same.
The Synjuk also urged upon the public, especially the youth, to conduct peaceful agitation and refrain from any confrontation with the law enforcing agencies.
