JOWAI: The former Williamnagar District Transports Officer (DTO) Robinus Syngkon has decided to take a plunge into electoral politics.

Syngkon will contest 2013 Assembly election from Mowkaiaw constituency as an Independent candidate.

Announcing this at a public meeting held at his residence at Nongkynrih village on Saturday, Syngkon said, “I quit the government job and contest the election to serve people”.

“Being an officer, I did not have much power to help the people of the area as far as developmental activities are concerned, so I decided to quit the job”, Syngkon said.

The meeting was attended by more than 700 selected people including rangbah shnongs and Syngkon’s supporters.

Syngkon said people residing in the area were mostly farmers and if he was elected as their representative, issues concerning farming activities would top his agenda.

Issues like roads, border problem with Assam, health and education need proper attention, Rangbah shnongs and elders of the Mowkaiaw constituency pointed out.

Speaking at the meeting, Rangbah shnongs and other prominent residents, who are supporting Syngkon, hoped that Syngkon would serve the people of the area in a better way if he wins the election.

The Mowkaiaw will witness a multi-cornered contest. Other contestants are sitting Nartiang MLA ECB Bamon (NCP), JHADC Deputy chief, Qually Suiam (INC), former UDP MLA, Mihsalan Suchiang and former JSU chief Charles C Phawa.
