NONGSTOIN: Despite the State Government’s attempts to persuade Pynskhemlang Nongshlong of Langpih to withdraw his fast-unto-death decision, the youth is firm to go ahead with the resolve, taken in protest of the government’s failure to resolve the border dispute with Assam.
Earlier, Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh had directed West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner S Kharlyngdoh to hold a dialogue with Nongshlong in order to convince him to call off the fast.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Nongshlong said that he was ready to speak with the Deputy Commissioner but made it clear that irrespective of the outcome of the talk, he would go ahead with the fast-unto-death as announced by him earlier.
While acknowledging the State Governmnet’s endeavour to solve the boundary issue Nongshlong maintained that his fast was necessary for the greater interest of the people of the area.
Nongshlong stated that his decision to go on the fast was to avoid any form of violence.
“I believe that every problem can be solved through peaceful means,” he said.
Meanwhile, HANM (West Khasi Hills) has also extended its support to Nongshlong. The HANM however is yet to ascertain its participation in the fast.
The Hima Raid Mynsaw, Langpih has lauded Nongshlong’s bold decision and extended its support to the youth. “Members of the Hima Raid Mynsaw would join Pynskhemlang in the fast-unto-death,” sources confirmed.
