This shot taken from the Mawiong National Highway 44 flanking the industrial belt which was established along the remnant of the Umiam River shows the huge amount of smoke bellowing from the industries which are contributing to the drastic deterioration of nature. There are numerous factories and manufacturing units in this area and the amount of effluent discharged from them is a cause of concern. The Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board is responsible for monitoring and evaluation of pollution and emission and effluent discharges from these units and this matter seeks an urgent remedy.
