Purbasha Nath is in Class IV and she is old enough to know how to tackle the gigantic problem of overuse of energy resources. Her ‘green’ machine man brings the message for all — ‘Use Energy with Care’. It also asserts that Purbasha is a talented young painter.
The student of Rilbong LP School is the winner of this year’s painting competition organised by NEEPCO on November 14. The theme was, ‘Beware, use energy with care’.
Purbasha was adjudged the best among 80 participants and she got the opportunity to go to Delhi for the national competition where 84 lakh students participated. “I am very excited and definitely happy to go to Delhi. I am working hard so that I make an impact,” the young artist had told Sunday Shillong before leaving for the Capital.
The national competition was on December 12 and Purbasha was among the Top 108 students. She said she would practise painting for at least two hours every day before the Delhi event.
According to her drawing teacher Bolen Rai, Purbasha is a quiet and sincere student and always finishes her task on time. “She is obedient and a fast learner. She is my second student who won the NEEPCO contest in the state and went to the national level,” said Rai.
Purbasha won Rs 52,000 and a certificate at the state level. In Delhi, she received the final certificate and prizes from Union minister RK Singh at Vigyan Bhavan.
However, all the accolades and prizes do not affect Purbasha much. She is more concerned about giving her best in whichever contest she participates. Before the NEEPCO event, she had won many prizes in local painting competitions.
“I was always interested in painting and I draw whatever I see around me. Sometimes I take help from paintings in books. But I prefer the tougher subjects,” said Purbasha shyly. She does not talk much. Her smile is the answer to most of the questions she faces.
Unlike children of her age, Purbasha dwells in her world of colours and imaginations and is not interested in the razzmatazz on the idiot box. The walls of her small room proudly exhibit the drawings which Purbasha made since childhood. She also plays the role of a teacher at times and guides her little sister in drawing.
Purbasha wants to be a painter and she already knows that it will require a lot of hard work. Rai is proud of her and believes that she has the potential to go ahead as a painter.
