Guwahati: The Assam govt on Monday inked an MoU with the Bangalore-based Narayana Hrudayalaya under PPP mode for setting up a 300-bed super specialty hospital in the state, the first such in the northeast region. It is also expected to cater to the needs of patients from Bangladesh and Bhutan. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed with Narayana Hrudayalaya Pvt. Ltd. for the hospital which will be built under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode in Amingaon on the outskirts of Guwahati. The existing Tola Ram Bafna Civil Hospital at Amingaon will house the proposed hospital. “The basic objective of setting up the super specialty hospital is to extend the latest quality healthcare services to the common people,” said Tarun Gogoi while speaking on the occasion. “The Narayana Hrudayalaya has been playing an important role in making available latest quality healthcare services to the poor people through various health insurance schemes with the government,” Gogoi said. Assam is also planning to launch a health insurance policy for the people, he said. State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Assam will emerge as the health hub for the region and setting up of the super specialty hospital is the first step in this direction. (IANS)
