SHILLONG: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee has vowed to continue with its programme to sensitise people about the ramifications Citizenship Amendment Act would have in the state.

The Congress soon after the Christmas launched “ Christmas Sacrifice” programme and visited inter-state boundary areas like Rambrai and   Langpih to sensitise people about what is CAA and what impact It would have on the indigenous population of the state.

Congress leader, Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the party was scheduled to visit other areas as well but it was cancelled due to unavoidable situation and they would resume the programme as early as possible.

“We have plans to visit all the areas including the inter-state areas of Khasi-Jaintia Hills region,” Lyngdoh said.

The party usually distributes pamphlets among the people whenever they visit the distant villages to sensitise them about the CAA

“ Many of the people do not even know what is CAA and they are not even aware as to what impact , the Act would have on us,” Lyngdoh said while replying to a query about the response of the people to the CAA.

The timing of the Congress programme assumes significance as the party has expressed concern over the delay in resolving the inter-state boundary dispute and the party fears that the disputed areas with Assam may turn into enclaves for refugees who will be coming to Assam after the implementation of the CAA

While the Congress in the state is  organising a programme to sensitise people about the ill-effects of CAA, the BJP too have launched a 10-day nationwide programme to mobiise support for the contentious Act.
