TURA: The Anti Corruption and Human Development Organisation (ACHDO), on Wednesday, demanded the immediate repair of the Chibinang to Phulbari AMPT road along NH-127B saying the road is a lifeline for the people of the plain-belt areas.
According to the organisation, although the Phulbari to Rajabala portion of the road was recently repaired after decades of negligence, the Phulbari to Chibinang portion continues to remain abandoned.
“Recently, a two-page file was circulated in social media that the road from 41 km to 51 km has been sanctioned under NH-127B. But the same seems to have been only on paper as there has been no repairs on the road till now,” it said.
The organisation added that due to the bad condition of the road, passenger-carrying vehicles like tempos are charging as high as Rs 15 for a distance of a mere 7-8 km, which has become intolerable and unacceptable. It further stated that travelling on the said road was difficult, especially for patients needing medical attention and pregnant mothers, as they have to endure extreme pain during transportation to Phulbari CHC.
Stating that speedy construction needs to be taken up if the road has already been sanctioned, ACHDO warned that it will be left with no other option but to start a democratic agitation if its demand continues to be ignored.
“We are shocked that despite several demands, the road still remains unconstructed. How can a road that serves as a lifeline be neglected for so many years. If there is any further delay we will take the matter to court,” it warned.
The organisation also threatened to organise stirs like road blockade, market shut down, etc., if work on the road is not started within this month.
Meanwhile, it also sought temporary stoppage of stone-carrying trucks from Bhutan from plying on the road to make way for the road construction as well as the setting up of a weigh bridge along the AMPT road to prevent the exporter from taking advantage of the route.
