GUWAHATI: The Assam Rajyik Gorkha Yuva Parisangha, the state unit of the Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangha constituted here on Sunday pledged to support the ongoing movement by various organisations against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) till Assam and the Northeast is exempted from the purview of the contentious legislation.
“We stand with Assam till our state and region is exempted from the purview of CAA. We look forward to work closely with community youth and students organisations of Assam,” Rahul Chhetri, the newly-elected general secretary of the Parisangha’s state unit, told reporters here after assuming office.
Earlier, the first executive meeting and swearing-in ceremony of the 21-member state unit of the Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangha was held on Sunday.
“As indigenous Gorkhas, our opposition to CAA is not questionable. We have been protesting against CAA along with the students of Assam,” Chhetri said.
Meanwhile, Nanda Kirati Dewan, the national convenor of the Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangha, the youth organisation of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha (BGP), pointed out that the Gorkhas in Assam were identified as Nepali graziers and cultivators in Assam Land and Revenue Regulation, 1886.
