SHILLONG: Former NPP MLA from Ranikor Martin M Danggo on Tuesday refuted reports that he will quit the party and said these only seek to create rift between him and the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, who is the national president of the party.
In a statement issued here, Danggo said that there has been no talk of leaving the party. He expressed gratitude to the chief minister for the Ranikor Civil Sub-Division and for appointing him as the co-chairman of the State Planning Board.
Terming the reports as baseless, he revealed that the Congress had tried to coax him to rejoin the party, but he had no such intention.
“Someone must have hatched a plan to create differences between me and the CM. But there have been no differences between me and the CM and within the NPP”, he said.
He stated that even if there are changes in the future, he would intimate the decision to the national president as well as the state president and the NPP as a whole.
He added that if he intends to leave the NPP, he will first tender his resignation from the post of co-chairman of State Planning Board and then from the party.
Danggo also denied reports that he would not contest the Langrin Council bypoll and would extend support to any candidate fielded by the NPP.
