SHILLONG: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) will file a petition in the Supreme Court on January 16 against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
This was informed by CoMSO chairman Robert June Kharjahrin.
CoMSO would be the second organisation from the state to file a petition against the CAA after the North East Students Organisation (NESO).
NESO filed a writ petition in the apex court seeking a stay of the operation and implementation of CAA. The 55-page writ petition stated that the Act (especially sections 2, 3, 5 and 6) is unreasonable, arbitrary, illegal, and thus violates Article 14 of the Constitution.
The CoMSO had recently said that it would continue to oppose the CAA even if the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system is implemented in the state.
It demanded that the government repeal the CAA immediately.
