TURA: Dry fish sellers from in and around Garo Hills have sought action against a group of persons for allegedly preventing them from selling their wares at the weekly Na’jing Market in Tura and threatening them with dire consequences if they did not comply.
In a complaint to the deputy commissioner, which was filed by 14 of the small time traders, it was alleged that Anclusis M Marak along with others prevented them from entering the market and doing business merely because they did not buy their wares from a particular supplier. “They told us that we have to buy the dry fish from one Zakir Hussain or else we will not be allowed to enter the market. Due to the obstruction, we have incurred losses as we could not make any sale,” the traders complained.
“We were told that they had settled the supply of dry fish with the Municipal Board. But that does not mean that we have to make the purchase from their supplier. This is unlawful and amounts to depriving us of our constitutional right to life,” they said.
