TURA: It was a perfect start to the beginning of the new college year in the region as hundreds of young college students from various institutions came together to celebrate the five day long North-East National Service Scheme Festival-2020 hosted here by the Don Bosco College institution on Monday.
Members of the various NSS units of the different colleges, namely Tura Government College, Durama College and several other institutions from Garo Hills region are actively taking part in the event.
The festival is being attended by about 300 NSS volunteers from various colleges of the eight North-Eastern states of India. The flag hoisting was in perfect synchrony with the singing of the NSS Anthem led by the NSS volunteers of Tura Government College.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Anurag Kumar, IPS, DIG of the Western Range, Tura emphasized on selfless voluntary service and the necessity to give back to society what one has received. He cited the example of ‘the good Samaritan’ and urged the gathering to render generous service to those in need.
Prof. Nikme S. C. Momin, HOD, Department of Education, NEHU Tura Campus, who was one of the Guests of Honour emphasized on self preparation with a view to serve others. She reminded about inner preparation and garnering and reinforcing of inner strength in order to be of greater and better service to the community.
The Salesian Provincial of Don Bosco, Guwahati, Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, who arrived to attend this youth festival also addressed the gathering and spoke about community service expressing immense joy to witness the large number of NSS volunteers attending the Festival. He stated that the number of youth volunteering for service is a great is a sign of great hope for future.
Dipak sharma, Yourh Officer, NSS, Regional Directorate, Guwahati highlighted the NSS Structure in general and NE NSS Festival 2020 in particular.
Earlier, Principal of Don Bosco College, Tura, Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, welcomed the distinguished guests, Programme Officers and NSS volunteers and expressed his joy that such a festival could be held was being for the first time in Tura.
The NSS volunteers were entertained to a Garo traditional Wangala dance and Garo song by the hosts. The Inauguration Programme came to an end with the singing of National Anthem by everyone present.
