SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma led his cabinet colleagues to meet Meghalaya Governor RN Ravi on Tuesday.
Source said the issues related to the delay in approving the ordinance on Residents Act and administrator’s rule in KHADC among others figured in the meeting.
According to sources, the government delegation apprised the governor on the law and order situation in the state arising out of the demand of the pressure groups to scrap CAA and implement ILP in the state.
The governor recently met the Prime Minister in New Delhi and discussed the state situation.
The chief minister and the members from MDA delegation are expected to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah after the Republic Day celebrations to discuss the ILP issue.
Though the Centre exempted areas under Sixth Schedule from the purview of CAA, pressure groups in Meghalaya are demanding total exemption and implementation of ILP.
As far as the recommendation of the state government to impose administrator’s rule in KHADC is concerned, the governor may wait for the outcome of the verdict of High Court since a petition was filed by the KHADC CEM against Raj Bhavan for the delay in approving the names of Executive Members as forwarded by the CEM.
