SHILLONG: The state unit of the NCP has constituted a committee to study the different aspects of the Meghalaya Community Participation (MCP) Bill, 2010, which has drawn flak from several quarters.
The committee, which includes two party MLAs James Sangma and John Manner Marak, will study all pros and cons of the Bill before submitting its report to the party high command.
According the party leader Conrad Sangma, the committee is likely to submit its report within a week’s time.
It may be mentioned that several NGOs have opposed the proposed draft of the MCP Bill, 2010 fearing it usurp the powers of the traditional system of governance in the state.
The KSU has raised its objection to the passage of the MCP Bill 2011 terming it as anti-people. “The Bill is against the interest of the indigenous people,” KSU chief Samuel Jyrwa said.
