TURA: A workshop on the revival of Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS) organized by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Meghalaya, Shillong was on Friday held at the Social Mobilization, Experimentation and Learning Center at Dakopgre, Tura.
The objective of the workshop was to impart necessary training and instruction to prepare PACS to be successful, productive and consistent in their activities.
Inaugurating the workshop, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Pravin Bakshi commended the organizers for their initiative to improve PACS through thorough analysis and imparting of necessary training to the members. Stressing on the need to offer guidance to PACS, Bakshi said that there is a lot that needs to be done to improve the capacity and performance of PACS through special government interventions.
Lamenting that cooperative societies in the region usually see themselves as beneficiaries, Bakshi urged PACS to come out of that particular mindset and see themselves as entrepreneurs. He stated that humans were born entrepreneurs and as such was industrious.
Bakshi informed that financial discipline and following procedures was crucial for the survival of any industry and said that social mobilization of PACS was the need of the hour.
