SHILLONG: The State Cabinet which met in Jaintia Hills on Tuesday for the first time did not discuss about the illegal transportation of coal neither the resumption of coal mining in the state.
However, Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma said that Cabinet came with memos and Cabinet did not discuss issues randomly
“After the Cabinet meeting we discussed issues pertaining to the district and it is not necessary that we have to take up in the Cabinet,” Chief Minister said
On being asked about the alleged illegal transportation of coal in the state, Chief Minister said that there was no truth in the allegations and Government had given strict instruction to all the department.
“ There is no question of illegal mining taking place,” he said even as he added that directions had been issued to all the departments including police to ensure that no illegal transportation of coal is allowed.
When asked about the demands of the MDA partners to remove James Sangma from the post of Home Minister, Chief Minister people have opinions but if one looks at the overall law and order situation, Home department has done a good job.
Recalling the two instances of major law and order problem in the state including Shillong, Sangma said that in many places, people lost their lives, but the way situation was controlled and managed in Meghalaya, not even a single life was lost.
“ Home department is always flaked for anything and everything and it is always at the fire fighting end but if there are issues, these will be discussed in the Cabinet and colleagues , we will find a solution and resolve it,” he said
