MAWKYRWAT: Even after five years, the construction work of the Block Institute of Education & Training Center (BIET), at Sakwang village, in South West Khasi Hills is still in doldrums.
The KSU, Mawkyrwat circle on Friday inspected the work at BIET which has been on hold for a long time.
The construction of the building began five years ago and till now it is in the initial stage with only the foundation and the pillars being installed even after five years.
The union pointed out that since the work has been put on hold for a long time, the rods have started to rust.
“We are very disappointed with the work. Even after 5 years it is still in the early stage of the construction.
The pending of the project is a great loss to the students and youths of the district who will build the future of the ‘Jaitbynriew’ through proper education,” education secretary of the union, Tanlum K Kharai said.
The KSU Mawkyrwat circle also showed its disappointment over the government not sanctioning additional posts at Sngap Syiem College, Mawkyrwat, which is the only college that provides education to the students of the district.
Kharai questioned the state government over the problems faced by primary schools where only one teacher has to cover and teach students from class I-IV.
Urging the government to look into the grievances faced by the lower primary, primary and secondary schools, the union asked why additional posts were not sanctioned to secondary schools.
